Debuting this week on DVD and Blu-ray is the latest catch-all genre parody, 30 NIGHTS OF PARANORMAL ACTIVITY…aw, hell, it’s too long to run in this intro. Fango spoke to one of the actresses spoofing a legendary recent screen heroine with a penchant for leather and piercings.

On the set of the Kane Hodder/Bill Moseley-starrer OLD 37, we got a chance to chat with Olivia Alexander, who plays a mean girl in that movie and a bad-ass one in the new comedy. “It’s called 30 NIGHTS OF PARANORMAL ACTIVITY WITH THE DEVIL INSIDE THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO—longest title ever,” says Alexander, who plays the eponymous Girl for writer/director Craig Moss in the film, released by Fox Home Entertainment. “I play a 16-year-old girl who is absolutely having an identity crisis, and she’s in love with her neighbor, who happens to be Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter. He’s trying to emancipate my pants, essentially, and the film kind of goes from there. We poked fun at just about everything we possibly could.”

It was a dream role for Alexander, who cops to being “obsessed with THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO,” and jumped at the opportunity to have some fun with the iconic role played by Noomi Rapace in three Swedish films and Rooney Mara in the U.S. screen version. “I got the audition on a random Friday night, and my manager was like, ‘Do you even want to go on a Saturday?’ ” she recalls. “And I was like, ‘Are you kidding—yes! To parody Rooney Mara and David Fincher, I’m there!’ I love Anna Faris and I’ve always wanted to be in a parody film ’cause she’s one of my idols, so I went into the audition with crazy makeup on—I did the hair, the whole thing. And I got the part, and had a great time. I spent a good month and a half, the entire course of production, with bleached eyebrows. I wanted to get the real piercings, ’cause I read Rooney Mara did it and I wanted to be as bad-ass as her, but they wouldn’t let me. But I had the bleached eyebrows and a mohawk and amazing fake tattoos, and it was just a blast.

“And then, to play a character who’s not sexy or hot in any way—that was a first for me,” she continues. “It opened up a different side of myself for me to explore. It was tiring, but a crazy learning experience. I just hope I did it justice, because when you do a film like this and you’re making fun of people, it had better be funny, or you’re just an asshole, you know? It was an amazing experience, and I hope people like it.”
