From the NY-based filmmakers behind the incredible, nerve-racking films AFTERSCHOOL and MARTHA MARCY MAY MARLENE.
Production outfit Borderline Films comprises Sean Durkin, Antonio Campos and Josh Mond, all three of which rotate between directing and producing roles on each other's films. Last year, Durkin debuted with the towering cult-escapee tale MARTHA MARCY MAY MARLENE. Now, IFC is gearing up to bring us SIMON KILLER, the latest from Campos, and his long-awaited follow-up to AFTERSCHOOL, a harrowing, subdued work.
SIMON KILLER "follows recent graduate Simon (FUNNY GAMES' Brady Corbet) as he travels to Paris to escape the fallout from a former relationship. No matter how hard he tries, Simon can't seem to shake the past and feelings of lost love. Instead, he fills his days traveling the streets and taking in the sites, while composing letters to his ex-girlfriend, engaging in chat room sex and hitting on girls in the streets. When he meets a beautiful prostitute (Mati Diop) and falls in love, everything begins to unravel and we discover that Simon is harboring some dark secrets."
I am wholly uncertain how much SIMON KILLER fits in the Fango wheelhouse, but no question MARTHA MARCY hung tough and Durkin and Campos are truly hitting psychological notes to the tune of Polanski. They're great young filmmakers and this is a great new poster, one that teases how visually stimulating SIMON KILLER apparently is.
