There hasn't been much in the way of updates on Tobe Hooper's DJINN, an Abu Dhabi-set tale of horror he lensed abroad last year. Sadly, it could be in trouble. 

Italian film site Movie Sushi received some intel that apparently, despite positive response to a recent test screening, a member of the royal family of Abu Dhabi has seen the film and deemed its content an unfit representation of United Arab Emirates, with plans to block its distribution. As one would imagine, it's a difficult move to fight, but the TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE filmmaker is apparently trying what he can to get the film seen. 

There's no confirmation aside from the site's sources, that this is exactly the situation, but it's a shame as last year producer Daniela Tully called DJINN "a tale told with a lot of respect for the Emirati traditions." DJINN sees Khaled and Salama, an Emirati couple, returning home from the U.S. only to find the titular forces invading their apartment.

Of course, the concept of Djinn (supernatural creatures that live in a parallel dimension) is one that I've personally seen to be taken very seriously within Islamic culture, so it's possible that any horror film centered around such would be received badly.
