Guillermo del Toro now bringing “TROLLHUNTERS” to Netflix

Netflix and DreamWorks Animation have announced an expanded pact to collaborate on original animated series, including a Guillermo del Toro project about hungry subterranean creatures previously announced as a feature film.

Variety reports that among the DreamWorks shows Netflix will premiere in 2016 will be TROLLHUNTERS, a property del Toro was originally set to write and direct as a full-length movie. The series, according to DreamWorks, “will unleash a new, fantastical world wrapped around two best friends who make a startling discovery beneath their hometown.” Del Toro first brought the world of TROLLHUNTERS (which has no connection with Norwegian director Andre Øvredal’s TROLL HUNTER film) to life in an illustrated novel co-written with Bram Stoker Award-nominated author Daniel Kraus. Also part of the pact is a revival of the classic VOLTRON franchise.
