You can’t keep a good Death Dealer down, so Kate Beckinsale is returning for more vampire-vs.-Lycan action in UNDERWORLD 5, which has started rolling.
Anna Foerster, who has directed episodes of CRIMINAL MINDS and OUTLANDER and served on a number of big-ticket movies as cinematographer (WHITE HOUSE DOWN) and visual FX DP (PITCH BLACK, GODZILLA, INDEPENDENCE DAY), makes her feature helming debut on the new sequel, which is a.k.a. UNDERWORLD: NEXT GENERATION, for Screen Gems and Lakeshore Entertainment; the film will shoot for 10 weeks in and around Prague. THE LAST WITCH HUNTER’s Cory Goodman scripted the movie, in which Beckinsale’s Selene is rejoined by Theo James’ David and Charles Dance’s vampire elder Thomas from previous installments.
New to the ensemble are Tobias Menzies as a new Lycan leader and Lara Pulver as an ambitious bloodsucker, along with James Faulkner, Peter Andersson, Clementine Nicholson, Bradley James and Daisy Head. The formidable behind-the-camera team includes cinematographer Karl W. Lindenlaub (INDEPENDENCE DAY, PRINCE CASPIAN), production designer Ondrej Nekvasil, who created the remarkable environments of SNOWPIERCER, editor Peter Amundson, who cut BLADE II, HELLBOY and PACIFIC RIM for Guillermo del Toro, and costume designer Bojana Nikitovic. Franchise veterans Tom Rosenberg, Gary Lucchesi, Richard S. Wright, David Kern and Len Wiseman are producing; Screen Gems is currently targeting an October 21, 2016 release.
